Welcoming DC's Newest Black Belts
Promotions are always an exciting time of year, particularly when we have the honor of welcoming two new black belts for the first time under the Estilo Jiu Jitsu banner!
Yifan Yang and Nigel Gibbs have embodied that “warrior spirit” since they walked in the door over 10 years ago, in the sense that they’ve constantly sought challenges and ways to keep growing. In fact, these are attributes that I am so proud to see from everyone who was promoted, and values that guide us as a community — enthusiasm, curiosity, a thirst for learning and growing, humility, and courage.
Our main intention here at Estilo is the development of skill. And while the achievement of a new belt comes as a representation of that, it isn’t the end goal itself. I’m incredibly proud of everyone who comes along on this challenging journey — it is a long and arduous one, and a journey that should always remain incomplete. The work doesn’t stop.
